Are you interested in becoming a market trader on Widnes Market?

Applications for stalls are considered weekly, when a panel of representatives with an interest in the market meet to discuss applications and come to a decision about whether or not they should be successful. We’re also looking for traders with original ideas to bring something different to the market. Where an application is successful we will arrange for the applicant to come and meet the market team at a mutually convenient time. This meeting will be the opportunity to sign a Tenancy at Will for their stall and to pay a deposit equivalent to one month’s rent, stall rent is based on the square footage and frontage of each stall.

Open Market

The Open Market consists of 80 stalls.

Opening Hours

The Open Market takes place on a Monday, Friday and Saturday between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

A markets charging policy was agreed at Executive Board and was effective from 1st April 2016.  It brings together in one document all the relevant costs associated with renting a stall or storage space at Widnes Market Hall and Widnes Open Market. The document provides a framework for clarity, transparency and equity in how Halton Borough Council charges traders/tenants for using our markets.

Decision Making

Applications for stalls are considered weekly, when a panel of representatives with an interest in the market meet to discuss applications and come to a decision about whether or not they should be successful. We’re also looking for traders with original ideas to bring something different to the market. Where an application is successful we will arrange for the applicant to come and meet the market team at a mutually convenient time. If your application is successful the markets team will be able to give you a stall number for your first trading day as soon as you have provided them with the identification set out in the application form. Stall allocations will be based on the commodities that you are proposing to sell.
